Each Voice Is Unique

One of the fundamentals of singing is to understand that each of us has a unique voice that is more unique as vocal muscular function improves.

The following factors determine this unique vocal quality:

  • The first is the actual construction or shape of our physical bodies, such as the spaces in our neck and head.

  • The second is our mind. How we think and can use our imaginations to create sounds.

  • The third is our emotions. How we can access and express our feelings in our sounds without disturbing function. For example, it is very hard to cry and sing simultaneously.

  • The fourth is our basic temperament. For example, whether we are a more excited person or laid back person, which would mean that we would naturally infuse our voice with more energy if excited or less energy if laid back.

Allen has been enjoying singing since he was a little kid. He officially studied voice at ECU and USC. However, he ran into some vocal trouble. The search for healing led him to the studio of Dr. Joel Ewing, and into the world of functional vocal mechanics. Allen has explored vocal truth, and thus highly recommends the writings of E-Herbert Caesari, Cornelius Reid, and William Vennard. He is blessed to invite and accompany folks on the journey towards vocal wellbeing. The adventure awaits!
